Zach Arnett Out as Mississippi State Head Coach After Dismal Season

Mississippi State Parts Ways with Head Coach After Just One Year

Zach Arnett's Tenure Ends in Disappointment

Mississippi State University has announced the termination of Zach Arnett as head football coach, just one year after he took over the program. The decision comes after a disappointing season that saw the Bulldogs finish with a 5-6 record, culminating in a humiliating 51-10 defeat to Texas A&M.

Arnett, 37, was hired in 2022 after serving as the defensive coordinator at Ole Miss. He was expected to bring stability and success to a program that had struggled under previous coach Mike Leach. However, the Bulldogs failed to live up to expectations under his leadership.

The firing of Arnett highlights the challenges facing Mississippi State football. The program has struggled to consistently compete in the Southeastern Conference, and has not won a conference championship since 1941. Athletic director Zac Selmon is now tasked with finding a new head coach who can turn the program around.

Profile of Zach Arnett

Zachary Arnett was born on September 10, 1986 in Arlington, Texas. He played college football at New Mexico State before beginning his coaching career at the high school level. In 2011, he joined the Ole Miss coaching staff as a defensive quality control assistant.

Arnett quickly rose through the ranks, becoming the Rebels' defensive coordinator in 2020. Under his leadership, Ole Miss's defense consistently ranked among the nation's best. In 2022, he was named the head coach at Mississippi State.

Mississippi State Moving Forward

The firing of Zach Arnett marks a new chapter for Mississippi State football. Athletic director Zac Selmon has stated that he will conduct a thorough search for a new head coach who can lead the Bulldogs to success.

Mississippi State has a rich football tradition, and its fans are eager to see the program return to prominence. The hiring of a new head coach will be a crucial step in that process.
