World Environment Day 2024

Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience: Our Commitment to Solving the Climate and Biodiversity Crisis

World Environment Day 2024

Join the GenerationRestoration Action in Bangkok on 5 June

World Environment Day is celebrated annually on 5 June. In 2022, the theme emphasized "Only One Earth" and the need to bring people and nature back into balance. In 2021, the theme called for urgent action on climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution.

This year's theme focuses on land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience. Land restoration is the process of restoring degraded land to its natural or former state. Desertification is the process of land becoming desert-like due to climate change and human activities. Drought resilience is the ability of a region to withstand drought conditions.

These three issues are closely interconnected. Desertification can lead to drought, and drought can worsen land degradation. Land restoration can help to mitigate the effects of desertification and drought, and it can also help to protect biodiversity and improve livelihoods.

On World Environment Day, we commit to taking action on land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience. We urge everyone to join us in this effort. Together, we can create a sustainable future for all.
